TULSA, Okla. – Stanford softball split Saturday's action of the OSU/Tulsa Invite to move to 17-4 on the season. The Cardinal dropped the opener in nine innings to DePaul, 6-5, before rallying for a 1-0 victory in the seventh inning against Tulsa.
DEPAUL RECAP
Stanford opened the day with a 6-5 loss to DePaul (7-10) in extra innings.
Chloe Doyle and Kaitlyn Lim homered on the afternoon, but a season-high five errors doomed the Cardinal. All of the Blue Demons' four runs in regulation were unearned. Back-to-back hit batters in the top of the ninth inning loaded the bases thanks to a runner starting on second with the international tiebreaker rule.
Tatum Boyd was brought in to try and escape the jam, but with the baes loaded and zero outs she was able to retire only one batter before a single to right field ended the game.
Emily Young was 2-for-4 with a RBI, and Emily Schultz had a double.
TULSA RECAP
In a tight game with little offense to be seen, Ellee Eck proved to be the spark the Cardinal offense needed. The sophomore led off the top of the seventh with a triple that rolled through the gap in right center all the way to the wall.
With one out, Eck scored on a double down the right field line from Sydnee Huff for the lone run of the game.
Alana Vawter was masterful in the circle – with only three Hurricane batters reaching first safely on the night. After a leadoff double in the first inning, Vawter didn't allow another hit all game. The only other baserunners for Tulsa in the game were on a walk and an error.
The win improves Vawter to 9-2 on the season and was her fourth shutout of the season.
