Results Opens in a new window

FAIRFAX, Calif. – Behind a course-record 8-under 64 by freshman Rose Zhang, and a 5-under 67 from junior Brooke Seay, No. 1 Stanford women's golf nearly overcame a 14-stroke deficit to win the Juli Inkster Invitational on Tuesday at Meadow Club. However, No. 9 San Jose State was able to hold on to their lead by one stroke to edge the Cardinal for the victory. Stanford has now won five of its seven team events this season, with runner-up finishes in the other two.

Zhang set the course record and posted her best round as a Cardinal, with eight birdies and 10 pars on the day. She finished second, at 11-under, behind Washington's Camille Boyd who won medalist honors at 13-under. In six collegiate starts, Zhang has won three times, finished second twice, and tied for fourth in the other event. She has scored in the 60s in 10 of her 18 rounds,

Right behind Zhang was Seay, who posted three birdies, an eagle and 14 pars on Tuesday to finish tied for fifth at 3-under. For Seay, it was her third consecutive Top-5 finish.

Stanford's 11-under 277 on Tuesday was tied for the sixth-best round-to-par in program history, and 13 strokes clear of the next best round. The Cardinal will now break for final exams, before resuming its spring season on March 25 at the Ping/ASU Invitational at Papago Golf Club.
