King of the Triple Jump

WALNUT, Calif. – If ever a record seemed destined to be broken, it was the Stanford men's triple jump standard with Keyshawn King on the horizon.

King, an Olympic Trials finalist last year, broke Stanford's all-conditions mark on Saturday, twice exceeding the existing school absolute record with wind-aided jumps at the Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. And on his fourth jump, King equaled the Stanford outdoor record with a wind-legal 52-6 ¾ (16.02m).

King's jump of 53-0 ¾ (16.17 meters), aided by a 3.6 meters per second wind – over the allowable 2.0 for record purposes -- placed third in the invitational field and second among collegians.

King had came within ¾ of an inch of the school outdoor record last year. But, officially, he will share the outdoor mark with three-time Pac-12 champion Darian Brooks from 2014, though Brooks still holds the Stanford absolute record of 52-9 ¼ (16.08m) achieved indoors in 2016).

On his fourth jump, King traveled 53-0 ¼ (16.16m), aided by a 2.7 mps wind. King's performance capped a big weekend for Stanford jumps/multis coach Arthur Ignaczak, whose athletes tied or broke two school records at Mt. SAC, including heptathlete Allie Jones.

At the Beach Invitational at Cal State Long Beach's Jack Rose Track, Chudi Ikpeazu made his Stanford debut and was fifth in the discus at 183-9 (56.02m).

Ikpeazu, a graduate transfer from University of Pennsylvania, reached that distance on the third of his six throws. It was enough to jump him into Stanford's all-time top-10 performers' list, at No. 10.

Ikpeazu knocks out Steve Davis, who had been a member of that top-10 list since 1969, when he threw 182-6 (55.62m).
