STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford softball dropped Saturday's game against Utah, 11-2 in five innings, to force a rubber match on Sunday. The loss drops the Cardinal to 22-9 on the season and 2-3 in Pac-12 play.
A two-run home run with two outs gave the Utes (18-15, 2-3 Pac-12) an early lead in the first inning. Sydney Steele doubled to the left field to pull Stanford within a run, but Utah would respond with two runs in the third and fourth inning. A four-run top of the fifth put the visitors up 11-2, and the Cardinal were unable to respond in the bottom half to extend the game.
Kaitlyn Lim came within inches of a home run in the bottom of the fourth. A high drive bounced off the top of the wall back into the outfield and Lim was forced to settle for a triple. Ellee Eck batted her in on a sacrifice fly to center field.
Stanford looks to claim the series on Sunday, with first pitch at 2 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks.
