STANFORD, Calif. – For the fifth consecutive year, Stanford finished in the top 10 on the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American Team list, the organization announced Friday.
The Cardinal placed eighth with a 3.457 team GPA. Long Island topped the list for a second straight year with a 3.626 team GPA, while Hofstra (3.575), Cleveland State (3.553), North Dakota State (3.542) and Campbell (3.484) rounded out the top 5.
Representing Stanford as individual Scholar All-Americans were redshirt juniors Shane Griffith (science, technology and society) and Real Woods (psychology), junior Nick Addison (psychology), redshirt sophomores Jaden Abas (psychology) and Logan Ashton (psychology), and sophomore Nick Stemmet (undeclared).
NC State and Wisconsin led the nation with eight individual NWCA Scholar All-Americans, while Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State and Rutgers had seven apiece.
Griffith (165 pounds) and Woods (141 pounds) collect their third career recognition, while Abas (149 pounds) and Stemmet (197 pounds) are repeat honorees. Ashton (125 pounds) and Addison (184 pounds) are being recognized for the first time.
The Cardinal matched Oregon State for the most individual honorees in the Pac-12 Conference. Stanford (8th) and Little Rock (27th) were the only Pac-12 institutions listed in the Scholar All-America Team top 30 list.
Awarded annually, the NWCA All-Academic Team contains 289 student-athletes from 74 different schools. The list also included 188 NCAA qualifiers, 56 All-Americans, 13 national finalists (including Griffith), and six national champions.
