SEATTLE, Wash. – Stanford softball brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh, but the timely hit proved elusive for the Cardinal in a 2-0 loss to 10th-ranked Washington, Saturday at the Husky Softball Stadium.
Trailing by a pair of runs, Stanford (32-15, 8-9 Pac-12) got a runner on base after Chloe Doyle was hit by a pitch to leadoff the frame. Ellee Eck re-entered the game to run for Doyle, and she advanced to scoring position with one out. The timely hit proved elusive as the Huskies (31-11, 11-6) struck out the three batters after Doyle to end the game and preserve a win.
On the day, Stanford matched Washington's five hits but went 0-for-10 with runners on base.
Sydnee Huff and Taylor Gindlesperger each doubled on the afternoon, while the former also added a triple in an impressive showing. Huff extended her team lead in triples to six – good for a tie for second in the conference.
Gindlesperger was a force to be reckoned with in the outfield today, building off her impressive showing on Friday night. The senior made a grab at the wall to rob a potential home run from Baylee Klingler – the conference's home run leader – in the bottom of the third with a runner on base.
Washington stranded eight runners on base in the game. Regan Krause limited the Huskies to three hits over 4.2 innings of relief on Saturday.
The Cardinal looks to claim a game on the series tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for noon.
