Fifth in Coed Fleet

NEW ORLEANS - The Cardinal took home fifth place at the ICSA Coed Fleet Race National Championships on Sunday. This marked Stanford's second top-five finish in a national championship event over the last five days.

The Cardinal raced well over the four day event, ultimately claiming the top spot in the eastern semifinal on Friday. Stanford beat out Yale and Tulane by nearly 30 points to take first place overall in the first rounds of the fleet race competition.

The Cardinal scored 79 points in the A division of the semifinal, the third best mark of any team. In the B division, Stanford scored 29 points, the fewest of any school by a wide margin. Yale was the next best competitor, logging 74.

Stanford took the strong finish in the preliminary round into the final, competing against 17 other schools for the title. After the first day, Stanford sat in eighth place with some ground to make up heading into Sunday.

Stanford moved up three spots to fifth on the final day, finishing behind Tulane, Yale, Brown, and Dartmouth. The Cardinal scored a total of 260 points (A-101, B-159), just eight behind Dartmouth in fourth.

Three Cardinal skippers also earned CSA Coed Sailing All-America Honors on Sunday as well. Jack Parkin and Michelle Lahrkamp took home the award outright, while Wiley Rogers was named Honorable Mention.

Crew and women's skippers honors will be announced at a later date.

Stanford will be back in action in the third of three straight national championships, with the women's fleet race beginning tomorrow, Monday, May 23.
