STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford has added a late addition to its incoming freshman class for the upcoming 2022-23 season as Stavi Papadaki will join the Cardinal from Greece, announced Thursday by The Setsuko & Ishiyama Director of Women's Basketball Tara VanDerveer.
Papadaki, a 5-11 guard, joins a freshman class that includes the nation's top-rated recruit Lauren Betts (Centennial, Colo./Grandview), top-20 guard Indya Nivar (Apex, N.C./Apex Friendship) and top-75 guard Talana Lepolo (Concord, Calif./Carondelet).
"We are very excited about Stavi choosing to attend Stanford," commented VanDerveer. "She is an athletic and versatile wing player. We're impressed with her competitiveness and hope she will contribute as a scorer, playmaker and defender."
Papadaki hails from the island of Crete, the southernmost island in the country of Greece, and becomes the second Greek signee with the Cardinal, joining rising sophomore Elena Bosgana.
"I am so excited for this new chapter!" said Papadaki. "Stanford University has already embraced me in the most lovely way. I'm forever grateful to Coach Kate and Coach Tara who have been more than helpful and nothing but kind to me. Looking forward to joining the Cardinal!"
Papadaki features experience playing with the Greek national team at the U14, U15 and U18 levels, competing across the continent of Europe. She has trained and played for the club O.A. Chania for the past three years, finishing in the top five every season at various levels of the Greek championships.
Stanford is fresh off its second straight trip to the Final Four in 2022, after winning the 2021 national championship. The Cardinal has also won the last two regular season and tournament championships in the Pac-12 and has won more games than any team in the country the last two seasons.
