CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Bringing a close to the 2021-22 Stanford men's tennis campaign, sophomore Arthur Fery reached the quarterfinal round of the NCAA singles championship while also pairing with Alexandre Rotsaert to reach the round of 16 in the doubles tournament.
Fery tallied three impressive victories to reach the NCAA quarterfinal, starting with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Old Dominion's Francois Le Tallec in the opening round and a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win over Georgia Tech's Andres Martin in the second round. The sophomore from Wimbledon faced a familiar foe in the round of 16, USC's seventh-ranked Stefan Dostanic, with Fery sending him away with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
The event ended for Fery in the quarterfinals against top-seeded Ben Shelton from Florida, 6-3, 6-4. Fery ends his season with a 24-8 overall singles record, with 12 of his wins coming over ranked opponents. He was the final player remaining in the event from the Pac-12, and was one of six players nationally to reach at least the second round in doubles and the third round in singles.
Rotsaert and Fery cruised to an opening round win in doubles over Texas A&M's duo of Schachter and Taylor, ranked 14th nationally, winning in tiebreak fashion, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (6). A hard-fought tiebreaker went the other direction in the second round against South Carolina's team of Rodrigues and Thomson, with Stanford's duo falling 6-2, 7-6 (5).
Stanford's top-ranked doubles pair, which entered the tournament ranked 25th nationally but was as high as No. 6 earlier this season, finishes the season 23-7 overall.
