STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford women's swimming and diving will be represented by five swimmers at the 2022 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The five swimmers – Claire Curzan, Torri Huske, Katie Ledecky, Taylor Ruck and Regan Smith – represent two countries, with Ruck representing her native Canada, and the rest racing for Team USA.
The world championships will run June 17 to July 3.
Curzan, an incoming freshman from North Carolina, is representing the United States in four events: 100m free, 100m back, 50m fly and the 100m fly. She earned a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as part of the 4x100m medley relay pool, and won six medals – two gold, two silver and two bronze – at the 2021 Abu Dhabi World Short Course Championships.
Fresh off her freshman season on The Farm, Huske will race the 50m free, 100m free, 50m fly and 100m fly in Budapest for Team USA. She also earned a silver medal in Tokyo as part of the 4x100m medley team, and she was fourth by one-hundredth of a second in the 100m fly. Huske earned seven All-America honors in her debut campaign with the Cardinal.
She medaled three times in Abu Dhabi this past winter, winning gold in the 4x100m free and 4x50m free relays, and silver in the 4x200m free relay.
A 10-time Olympic medalist and 18-time World Championships medalist, Ledecky will represent the United States in all three distance events in Budapest: the 400m free, 800m free and 1500m free – all events she medaled in at the Tokyo Olympics.
Coming off a breakout season where she won NCAA titles in the 200 free and 800 free relay, Ruck will race the 100m back, 200m free and 200m back for the Canadians. Ruck medaled in both the 4x100m free and 4x100m medley relays for Canada at the Tokyo Olympics and was a member of Canada's bronze-medal winning 4x100m free, 4x200m free and 4x100m medley relay teams at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju.
Smith will race the 50m back, 100m back and the 200m fly in Budapest. She medaled at the Tokyo Olympics in both the 100m back (bronze) and 200m fly (silver) and was the world champion in 2019 in both the 200m back and 4x100m medley relay. Smith won NCAA titles as a freshman in the 800 free relay and the 200 back en route to being named the Pac-12 Women's Swimmer of the Year.
