Raised The Bar, Again

STANFORD, Calif. - One year after producing a school-record 21 All-Academic selections, the Cardinal managed to raise the bar even higher.

Stanford exceeded that total for the 2022 campaign, establishing a new benchmark with 23 All-Academic selections, as announced Tuesday by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).

Stanford's 23 honorees comprise its entire roster of eligible student-athletes who practiced and competed in 2022. The unprecedented academic success represents yet another tremendous achievement for the Cardinal, which also claimed its eighth NCAA title in school history with a 10-7 victory over USC on May 8.

Student-athletes eligible for the ACWPC All-Academic award must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Athlete merit levels include "Excellent" (3.20-3.40), "Superior" (3.41-3.70) and "Outstanding" (3.71 to 4.0).

The Cardinal also boasted the nation's second-highest team GPA at 3.72, with nine student-athletes earning "Outstanding" status (3.71 GPA or higher).

Stanford has produced at least 14 ACWPC All-Academic selections in each of the past eight seasons, increasing its all-time total to 271 recipients.

Two months ago, Stanford was recognized for its success at the conference level, with a league-high 15 eligible student-athletes earning a spot on the MPSF All-Academic Team. Last week, the Cardinal was honored with 18 student-athletes named to the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll.

The Cardinal was also represented with an individual national academic award, as Makenzie Fischer was honored as the CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Team Member of the Year for the second time in her career (2019, 2022). A three-time CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large (2018, 2019, 2022), Fischer was also Stanford's NCAA Elite 90 Award nominee, boasting a 4.032 undergraduate GPA and 4.0 graduate GPA in mechanical engineering while also winning her second Peter J. Cutino Award, presented to the most outstanding female collegiate water polo player in the nation.
