Mr. Versatile
Kansas City starting safety Justin Reid kicked the extra point on the Chiefs' second touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals after an injury to regular kicker Harrison Butker. Reid kicked off seven times, with five resulting in touchbacks. He also had two solo tackles in a 44-21 victory. 
 



First career TD
Second-year tight end Colby Parkinson scored his first NFL touchdown on a 25-yard pass from Geno Smith, breaking a 10-10 second-quarter tie. The score resulted in the eventual winning point in Seattle's 17-16 victory at home against Denver. Parkinson had two receptions for 43 yards.

His team
In his first season opener as a starting NFL quarterback, Davis Mills completed 23 of 37 passes for 240 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in Houston's 20-20 overtime draw against Indianapolis. 

Perfect game
Atlanta center Drew Dalman made his first career start and played every offensive snap. He did not allow a sack, hit, or hurry in the Falcons' 27-26 loss to New Orleans. 

Panther mindset
Making his debut for the Carolina Panthers, eighth-year veteran defensive end Henry Anderson had two tackles for loss, a quarterback hurry, and had two solo tackles. Anderson played 34 percent of the defensive snaps in a 26-24 loss to Cleveland.

  • Jake Bailey averaged 39.3 yards on three punts, all landing inside the 20 without a return in New England's 20-7 loss to Miami.
  • Starting tight end Zach Ertz had two catches for 14 yards, including a 6-yard TD catch, and scored on a two-point conversion in Arizona's 44-21 loss to the Chiefs.
  • Dallas receiver Simi Fehoko had two receptions for 12 yards in a 19-3 loss to Tampa Bay.
  • Ninth-year vet Cameron Fleming started at offensive tackle in Denver's 17-16 loss to Seattle, playing all 60 offensive snaps and earning an 82.2 run blocking grade from PFF.
  • Tight end Austin Hooper made his Tennessee Titans' debut and played 40 offensive snaps. He had one catch for six yards in a 21-20 loss to the Giants. 
  • Offensive tackle Walker Little played five offensive snaps and five special teams snaps in Jacksonville's 28-22 loss to Washington.
  • Running back Christian McCaffrey scored Carolina's first TD on a 1-yard run, carried 10 times for 33 yards and caught four passes for 24 yards in a 26-24 loss to Cleveland.
  • Running back Ty Montgomery scored New England's only touchdown, on a 6-yarder among his three receptions for 15 yards, and he returned a kickoff for 28 yards in a 20-7 loss to Miami.
  • Starting inside linebacker Bobby Okereke had seven tackles, including six solo, and a pass breakup in the Colts' 20-20 tie with Houston.
  • Starting Saints' offensive guard Andrus Peat played every offensive snap in a 27-26 victory over Atlanta. 
  • Starting defensive tackle Harrison Phillips had three tackles, two QB hurries, and a 77.7 defensive grade in Minnesota's 23-7 victory over the Packers.
  • Starting Dallas tight end Dalton Schultz had seven receptions for 62 yards in a 19-3 loss to the Buccaneers. 
  • Cincinnati captain and 11th-year safety Michael Thomas played in 21 (66 percent) of special teams snaps in a 23-20 overtime loss to Pittsburgh. 
  • Jets' defensive tackle Solomon Thomas had a tackle and played in 36 percent of the defensive snaps in a 24-9 loss to Baltimore. 
  • Washington defensive end Casey Toohill had a tackle, two QB hits, and two QB hurries in a 28-22 victory over the Jaguars.
  • Nate Herbig (Jets) did not play. Thomas Booker (Houston) and Paulson Adebo (Saints, injury) were inactive. J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (Seattle), Tucker Fisk (Atlanta), Trenton Irwin (Cincinnati), Foster Sarell (Chargers), and Connor Wedington (49ers) were on practice squads. Curtis Robinson (49ers) is on injured reserve for the league-minimum first four games of the season.
