LOWELL, Mass. – Opening conference play on the East Coast, Stanford field hockey fell to UMass Lowell, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at Wicked Blue Field. The Cardinal moves to 2-4 on the season (0-1 America East).

Daisy Ford and Kendall Dowd made two saves apiece in a game where the River Hawks (5-2, 1-0 AE) outshot the Cardinal, 8-7. Fenella Scutt, Molly Redgrove and Cara Sambeth each tallied two shots, with both of Sambeth's attempts forcing saves from the UMass Lowell netminder.

Stanford tallied five penalty corners in the contest and successfully defended six.

The River Hawks opened the scoring in the first quarter with a deflected effort in front of goal at the 9:23 mark. The shot stood as the game winner, as neither team added a tally over the remaining 50 minutes.
