Every athlete has a go-to playlist that they listen to before they take the field, step on the court, or dive into the pool. In Pregame Playlist, a new series, we'll bring Stanford student-athlete's playlists to you! Hear from field hockey senior Megan Frost on what gets her in the right mindset before a game.
GoStanford.com: Thanks for sharing your playlist? What're your favorite songs here?
Megan Frost: "First, 'A Moment Apart' by Odesza. My all-time favorite artist is Odesza! Then I'd go with 'The Difference' by Flume and 'Fast Car' by Jonas Blue and Dakota."
GS: "Which song gets you the most hyped before a game?"
MF: "'Split' by Tiesto. It's a tradition for this song to play right before we head out to warm up, and our very own Isabelle Pilson has an extremely unique dance to this song that never fails to get us hyped up."
GS: "Any unique stories behind some of these songs?"
MF: "Last year, we started this tradition where everyone has a dance move and when the song 'Calibra' plays we pass each others dance moves to one another on the beat. I think Liz Heckard, an alum, found a TikTok trend and we thought it'd be fun to try out as a team. We now have a lineage of dance moves that started with seniors that graduated last year down to the current freshmen."
GS: "How does this set of songs help you through your gameday routine?"
MF: "It definitely connects us all before the game and reveals where the team's energy is at pregame. 'Split' and 'Calibra' are gameday traditions for most of us on the team."
GS: "What's the culture of music like around your teammates?"
MF: "I love any and all music, but definitely have a preference towards EM. Fenella Scutt and I both share a common love for Odesza and Rufus Du Sol. The rest of the team isn't always on the same wavelength there, but EDM is our team's go-to for any and all occasions. 'Drum & Bass Father' by D.E.Velopment is a new song our freshmen Scout Butler and Tottie Taylor have shown us that has become a HIT amongst the entire team -- coaches included! Cara Sambeth is the pregame DJ and throws out German songs we have learned to love.
