STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford juniors Joy Yun and Donghwan Park were named Women's and Men's Fencers of the Week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation on Tuesday for their performances at the Western Invitational at the Air Force Academy over the weekend.
Yun, a 2021 All-American, went 18-3 in sabre for an .857 winning percentage in women's competition. Park went 16-8 in sabre for a .667 percentage for the Cardinal men.
Yun went 2-1 against Harvard and 3-0 against Columbia, Ohio State, and Northwestern, while defeating Northwestern's 2021 NCAA runner-up. Yun beat All-Americans from Columbia and Ohio State. Her only loss out of 12 bouts on opening day was a narrow 5-4 outcome to Harvard's NCAA champion.
Yun was also the conference fencer of the week after last year's Western Invite, and now is a two-time weekly award winner.
Park, a two-time All-American, had at least one victory against all eight opponents, including five total victories against Harvard, Columbia, and Ohio State, which all tied for first place in the competition. Park also earned a 6-3 mark against fellow MPSF opponents Air Force, Incarnate Word, and UC San Diego. This is Park's first MPSF Athlete of the Week award.
