STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford's pair of senior captains Keegan Hughes and Cam Cilley have been named First Team Scholar All-Americans by United Soccer Coaches. Hughes was also announced as the National Scholar Player of the Year.
This year's Scholar All-America awards marks Stanford's first honorees since the 2020 season and the 21st and 22nd selections in program history. It's just the fourth time in program history that Stanford has had multiple selections to the Scholar All-America First Team.
Hughes becomes the first Stanford Men's Soccer player to ever earn the National Scholar Player of the Year award after a dominant fall season on the pitch and in the classroom.
Stanford's defensive stalwart was named a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, a United Soccer Coaches All-American, the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, and an All-Pac-12 First Team selection. Hughes was also named a CSC Academic All-District selection for his work in the classroom towards a degree in Political Science.
Cilley was the instrumental engine of Stanford's midfield this season, and had a career year including six goals and five assists for 17 points, the third-most on the team. Cilley joined Hughes as an All-Pac-12 First Team selection and as a CSC Academic All-District selection. The Alamo, California native is working towards a degree in Management Science & Engineering.
Stanford's captains helped guide the Cardinal back to the postseason, leading the team to the sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament during the 2022 season.
