KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Keegan Hughes has been named a First Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced on Friday. It marks the eighth year in the last nine season that Stanford has had at least one All-American selection.
Hughes was a critical part of Stanford's success during the 2022 season, leading a stout defense that ranked among the best in the NCAA. The 6-foot-4 defender also tallied four goals and an assist on the year.
Hughes has earned an array of accolades this year, being named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, an All-Pac-12 First Team selection, a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, and a CSC Academic All-District selection.
The All-America honor comes on the heels of Hughes' first All-Far West Region selection, where he was also named to the first team. Fellow senior captain Cam Cilley joined Hughes on the All-Far West Region first team, the first selection for both players.
This year's All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
