Card Falls in Stillwater

STILLWATER, Okla. – Three Cardinal picked up wins, but No. 16 Oklahoma State captured the dual, 25-9, Sunday at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Stanford drops to 6-5 overall, while the Cowboys move to 13-2.

Ranked No. 11 nationally, Jaden Abas got the Cardinal on the board with a 6-5 decision over No. 21 Victor Voinovich at 149 pounds. He scored a pair of takedowns in the first period, including one with less than 30 seconds remaining, which proved to be the difference in the match. The redshirt junior improves to 20-4 overall and 7-2 in duals.

Redshirt senior Shane Griffith, who is ranked No. 3 at 165 pounds, posted a 4-2 sudden victory decision over No. 25 Wyatt Sheets. Scoreless after the first, Griffith gave up a reversal to Sheets but was able to escape to make it 2-1. The Westwood, New Jersey, native chose down to start the third and tied up the score with another escape. In the extra frame, Griffith scored the winning takedown in the first minute to move to 21-1 on the season and 9-1 in duals.

Freshman Nico Provo scored the final points for the Cardinal with a 5-2 decision over Reece Witcraft at 125 pounds. Provo scored a takedown in the first 30 seconds of the match and rode out Witcraft for the remainder of the period. Leading 2-0 going into the third, Provo chose down and was awarded a point after Witcraft was hit for a second stall call. After escaping, Provo gave up a late takedown, but finished with the riding time point. He is now 17-6 overall and 5-4 in duals.
