STANFORD, Calif. – Freshman Asher Hong has been named Co-Gymnast of the Week and Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the College Gymnastics Association on Wednesday.
The Gymnast of the Week selection is the first of Hong's career, while he has now been named Rookie of the Week three times (January 18 & January 25).
Hong won the all-around on Saturday night in a tri-meet against No. 2 Oklahoma and No. 11 William & Mary, posting a combined 85.600 to finish ahead of Oklahoma's Zach Nunez (83.550) for the title. The all-around score is the highest in the nation this year.
The native of Tomball, Texas won the vault (15.150) and parallel bars (14.650) titles while finishing second on floor (14.700) and third on horizontal bar (13.700). Hong set new career highs on vault and floor en route to winning his first collegiate all-around crown.
Hong currently ranks first in the nation on rings (14.500), vault (14.867) and parallel bars (14.817) while ranking sixth on floor (14.317).
Hong had previously been named MPSF Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday of this week.
