Downed by the Dolphins

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - No. 15 Stanford dropped the first road game of the season, falling to No. 24 Jacksonville on Monday. The Cardinal moves to 1-2 on the season, while the Dolphins earned their first win of the season and move to 1-3.

Despite a strong first quarter that saw Stanford jump out to a 4-2 advantage, the Cardinal was unable to complete the comeback after falling behind at halftime, 5-7.

Stanford matched the Dolphins with two goals in the third quarter and three in the fourth, coming within one goal at 8-9 with 12:08 remaining in the contest. Ultimately, the Cardinal couldn't find the equalizer despite a late offensive surge.

The match remained close throughout the 60 minutes of play, as Stanford held a slim advantage in shots (34-28), shots on goal (22-20), and assists (5-4). The two teams were perfectly matched in draw controls (13).

Ailish Kelly was a dominant force for Stanford all game long, scoring five of Stanford's ten goals. She led all scorers in the game and also had the most points with five.

Ashley Humphrey had the next-most points of any Stanford player, snagging four from two goals and two assists. Annabel Frist and Jay Browne rounded out the scorers, with Frist tallying two goals and Browne adding a goal and an assist.

Kelsey Myers also dished two assists in the game.

Kara Rahaim had another impressive game in goal, recording eight saves against 28 shots. The Cardinal defense forced six turnovers on the day from six different players and corralled 24 ground balls, five of which were grabbed by Frist.

Stanford returns to action on Monday, February 27 to face Cornell in Cagan Stadium at 4 p.m.
