MPSF End of Season Awards Opens in a new window

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford claimed the three postseason awards after sweeping the MPSF Championships last week. The Cardinal also had eight swimmers named to the All-MPSF teams.

Lindi Schroeder was named the MPSF Artistic Swimmer of the Year after becoming the MPSF Champion in the solo (84.575) and duet (84.100) events, along with third-place trio (81.275) and fourth-place 'A' Technical (81.9646) routines. She was also a Western Regional Champion in the duet.

Schroeder took first-place in solo and trio in the final regular season meet vs. UCLA, in addition to her titles in solo and duet at the University of Arizona Collegiate Open. At the Stanford Invitational, she had three top-three results (2nd place solo, 1st place duet, 2nd place trio).

She won all four of her events in the season opener at Wheaton (solo, duet, trio, 'A' Tech), en route to her second career MPSF Artistic Swimmer of the Week honor. Schroeder is a USA Senior National Team member and 2020 Olympian. Schroeder's award marks Stanford's repeat of the annual MPSF Artistic Swimmer award (Nicole Goot, 2022).

Yara Elian, one of Stanford's standout freshmen was named the MPSF Freshman of the Year after has turning in a remarkable initial collegiate season. She took part in three MPSF titles at the conference championships, taking first-place in the duet (84.100), trio (83.05), and team (85.175) events.

Elian also placed second in the 'A' Technical event (83.0566) and finished as the MPSF's individual High Point Champion by an eight-point margin.

In the Western Regionals, University of Arizona Collegiate Open, and Stanford Invitational, Elian brought home the same three titles at each of those competitions---duet, trio, and team. In the season opener at Wheaton, she took first-place in duet and team, along with second-place routines in trio and 'A' Technical. Stanford repeats the annual MPSF freshman award (Nicole Goot, 2022).

Head coach Megan Abarca also repeated as the MPSF Coach of the Year after leading the Cardinal to a second-straight MPSF Championship. Stanford's fifth-year head coach guided the team to victories in each of the events (solo, duet, trio, Technical 'A,' and team) for a total score of 100 points.

She also led Stanford to dual meet victories over Wheaton, UCLA, and Ohio State, along with a first-place finish in the Western Regionals. Abarca has led a large new group of swimmers this season, welcoming six freshmen with a full roster of 14 athletes.

Her leadership has resulted in a seamless transition for the newcomers, as she guided three freshmen--Yara Elian, Ivy Davis, and Miko Begossi to the MPSF Trio title. Elian also earned the duet title along with Lindi Schroeder. Abarca also led Begossi and Davis to the silver medal in the duet competition at the MPSF Championships.

Schroeder and Elian were also named to the All MPSF First Team, along with Miko Begossi, Ivy Davis, and Nicole Goot. Stanford added three more swimmers on the second team: Hailee Heinrich, Emmanuella Tchakmakjian, and Ava Jih-Schiff.
