Card Falls in Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. - No. 21 Stanford fell to conference foe Colorado on Friday, 17-15. The Cardinal falls to 3-4 and 1-1 in conference play, while Colorado improves to 2-4 and 1-0 in the Pac-12.

Stanford started hot, gaining a 4-1 advantage in the first quarter, but the teams entered the halftime break locked up at eight goals apiece. The Cardinal jumped back in front by one following the third, outscoring Colorado 6-5, but the Buffs answered with a 4-1 final quarter to take the win.

Seven Cardinal found the back of the net, led by Ashley Humphrey with four. She also chipped in five assists, good for a game-leading nine points. Sarah Jaques was second on the score sheet with three goals and an assist as well.

Annabel Frist continued her strong season, recording two goals, an assist, and 10 draw controls. It's Frist's fourth game with eight or more draw controls so far this year.

Frist extended her lead in the Pac-12 for total goals, now up to 23, five more than the next player. She also lead the conference in draw controls with 44.

Lucy Pearson played her first minutes in goal this year, anchoring the Cardinal's defense for the final 12 minutes of the game. She allowed only two goals while making five saves, recording a save percentage of .714.

On the day, Stanford outshot the Buffs 37-32 and had 20 draw controls to Colorado's 15. Each team turned over the ball 11 times, but Colorado forced four turnovers to Stanford's two.

The Cardinal wraps up its road trip on Sunday at Oregon for its third Pac-12 game of the season.
