J.J. Clark was named West Region Women's Indoor Coach of the Year by the USTFCCCA.
Clark, Stanford's Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, led the Cardinal to fourth as a team at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, its best placing since 2006.
Clark, in his fourth season, has earned seven USTFCCCA West Region Coach of the Year awards while at Stanford and 13 altogether.
At the NCAA Indoor Championships, the Cardinal won the distance medley relay for the first time since 2000 and the 800 meters for the first time in history. Roisin Willis won at that distance, with teammate Juliette Whittaker second. Both are freshmen. They ran the second- and fourth-fastest times in collegiate indoor history – 1:59.93 and 2:00.05. Both Willis and Whittaker are coached directly by Clark.
Also, freshman Alyssa Jones set a U.S. under-20 indoor record while placing fourth in the long jump at 22-2 ½ (6.74 meters). And Stanford qualified a women's 4x400 relay to nationals for the first time since 2005.
The Stanford women broke eight school indoor records this season, with Willis and Jones breaking Stanford's absolute records as well.
Clark is a two-time USTFCCCA National Coach of the Year and a 10-time conference Coach of the Year.
