Griffith Places Fifth

TULSA, Okla. - Shane Griffith placed fifth at 165 pounds, Saturday, at the NCAA Championships at the BOK Center in Tulsa.

The No. 9 seed, Griffith defeated No. 3 seed Dean Hamiti of Wisconsin, 4-1, in the fifth-place bout. He is just the third three-time NCAA All-American in school history and was also tabbed an NWCA First Team All-American as a redshirt freshman in 2020 before the championships were canceled due to COVID. 

The Westwood, New Jersey, native was edged in the consolation semifinals by No. 11 seed Carmen Amine of Michigan, 2-1, in tiebreakers.

Griffith ends the season at 28-5 with a career record of 87-11 and a 14-3 mark at the national tournament.
