DURHAM, N.C.Irene Yeu earned her second All-America honor to lead Stanford to 13th place at the NCAA Fencing Championships on Sunday at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

With a team of four on hand – Yeu, Crystal Qian, and Joy Yun for women and Donghwan Park for the men – Stanford's combined team got 12 victories each from Yeu and Qian, nine from Park, and eight from Yun to finish with 41 points. Stanford tied with Northwestern on total victories, but finished behind the Wildcats on total touches.

Notre Dame won the team title. From Stanford's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Air Force was 11th, UC San Diego 16th, and Incarnate Word 24th.

Yeu placed 11th in epee to earn a top-12 finish and an All-America honor. It is her second such honor. Yeu went 12-10 over the two-day women's competition and finished her season at 56-28 (.667).

Yeu went 3-1 in the fourth round to open Sunday's action, which included a 3-2 victory over Harvard's Faith Park, who placed sixth. Yeu closed by going 3-1 in the fifth round for a 6-1 final day. Among her 12 victories overall were three over top-six placers.

This is the 41st time a Stanford woman has placed in the top 12 in any weapon and the 16th time in epee. Yeu, who was fifth in 2021, is among eight different Cardinal women all-time to earn a top-12 place in epee.

Qian placed 14th in foil, going 12-11 in the tournament. She finished her freshman season 49-22 (.690). Qian started the day in 12th, and went 2-2 in the fourth round and 2-2 in the fifth for a 4-4 day.

Yun finished 22nd with an 8-15 record in women's saber, closing with a flourish. After going 0-4 in the fourth round, she went 3-1 in Round Five. Included among those victories was a 5-4 stunner over Maggie Shealy of Brandeis, who went 19-4 to place first in the overall pool and earn the No. 1 seed for the semifinals. Yun finished the season with a 41-22 (.651) record.

The men's competition ended Friday with Park placing 17th in saber with a 9-12 record. He finished the season at 59-26 (.694).

Thus ended the 2022-23 season in which Stanford won the MPSF team title, four MPSF individual crowns, and three NCAA West Region individual championships.
