Card Falls to Wildcats

EVANSTON, Ill. - Stanford fell to No. 2 Northwestern on Sunday afternoon, 20-9. The Cardinal drops to 4-5 while the Wildcats move to 10-1.

Ashley Humphrey got Stanford on the board first, firing a free position goal early in the first quarter. But Northwestern went on an 11-0 run to close the first quarter to take the lead.

Stanford's offense picked up intensity in the fourth quarter, scoring five goals over the last 15 minutes of action. Nine different Cardinal players recorded a goal in the game.

Stanford was productive in the offensive third, scoring nine goals on 14 shots. 13 of the Cardinal's shots were on target.

Jay Browne had the most points of any Stanford player, recording a free position goal and assisting three other strikes during the contest. Rylee Bouvier also had an assist as the Cardinal dished four assists throughout the game.

Annabel Frist tallied four draw controls to go along with a goal, while Katie McMahon was second on the team with three DCs. Katy Gilbert chipped in two of her own controls to help Stanford to 12 on the day, five behind Northwestern's 17.

Kara Rahaim and Olivia Geoghan combined in goal for the Cardinal, recording 10 saves on the day. Stanford was perfect on clears in the game, going 13-13.

The Cardinal returns to action in Cagan Stadium next weekend, hosting conference rivals Arizona State and USC on Friday and Sunday.
