Stanford Falls to Denver

DENVER - Stanford fell to No. 3 Denver on Friday night 15-8. The Cardinal move to 7-7 on the season and 2-5 away from home, while the Pioneers move to 14-0.

In the seventh game this season against a ranked opponent, Stanford came out firing and scored the first three goals of the game. Ailish Kelly, Sarah Jaques, and Liana McDonnell were the first Cardinal to find the back of the net in the period, pushing Stanford to a 3-1 lead after one quarter.

Ashley Humphrey assisted the opening goal for Kelly, her 34th of the season and her 122nd in her career, tying her with Kelsey Murray for the Stanford record.

Kara Rahaim was a force once again in the goal, making 13 saves on the day including nine in the first half. She helped keep the Cardinal in a close game going into halftime, down 5-3.

Ailish Kelly was one of seven scorers for Stanford, finding the back of the net twice. Jay Browne led the Cardinal in points on the night, coming from four assists and a goal.

Rylee Bouvier, Annabel Frist, and Dani Jacobstein each tallied a goal as well.

Annabel Frist reeled in six draw controls on the evening, moving her to 112 on the season, the most in Stanford history. The Cardinal finished with one more draw control than the hosts, 13-12.

The Cardinal forced eight Denver turnovers, led by Ailish Kelly's two. Liana McDonnell and Caroline Mondiello each led the Cardinal in ground balls with two.

The Cardinal returns to action next weekend with Pac-12 play on Friday April 21 against Colorado and Sunday April 23 against Oregon. The game against Oregon will be Stanford's final home game of the season and also the team's senior day celebration.
