Two Cardinal Selected To Arnold Palmer Cup

Michael Thorbjornsen and Karl Vilips have been selected to the 2023 Arnold Palmer Cup, it was announced live on GOLF Channel Tuesday. This year's event will take place from June 8-10 at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pennsylvania.

Thorbjornsen will compete for Team USA for the second straight summer in the event, while Vilips makes his first appearance for the International Team.

A native of Wellesley, Mass., Thorbjornsen holds a 69.42 scoring average this season and has 17 career Top-20 finishes. He had an All-American season in 2022 and is one of 10 semifinalists for the Ben Hogan Award this season, as the Cardinal enters Pac-12 Championships at Stanford Golf Course this weekend.

Vilips, who hails from Perth, Australia, owns a 70.74 scoring average over 23 rounds so far this season. He has four Top-20s and two Top-6s. Last season he was named All-Pac-12 Second Team and earned a spot on the All-Pac-12 Newcomer Team in 2021.

Both players earned their spot by being in the Top Six for their respective teams in the Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings. The three-day, match-play event consists of mixed four ball, mixed foursomes, and singles matches.
