TEMPE, Ariz. - Stanford scored the most goals this season to dismantle the Sun Devils 22-11. The Cardinal improves to 7-5 on the season and 5-1 in the Pac-12 while Arizona State falls to 3-8 and 2-4 in conference play.
The Cardinal were led by Annabel Frist who scored five goals on the day. She leads the team in strikes this season, lifting her tally to 40, the most in the conference.
Stanford fell behind early in the game as Arizona State scored first. But once Peep Williams tied the game up at one at 10:48 in the first quarter, the Cardinal never fell behind in the rest of the game.
Stanford fired in seven goals in the first, five in the second, third in the fourth, and closed out the game with six in the fourth. The Sun Devils made a run in the third, scoring five goals, but Stanford's defense held strong in the fourth quarter, shutting out Arizona State.
Ashley Humphrey paced Stanford in points in the game, earning seven coming from two goals and five assists.
Nine Cardinal found the back of the net in the game including seven who scored multiple goals. Along with Humphrey and Frist were Jay Browne, Sarah Jauqes, Liana McDonnell, Maddigan Miller, and Rylee Bouvier.
The game was evenly matched on the draw control with Stanford narrowly in front with 12 draw controls to Arizona State's 11. The Cardinal were dominant offensively, outpacing the Sun Devils by 18 shots (38-20) and 12 on goal (28-16).
Annabel Frist added seven draw controls on the day, moving her season total to 102. She now sits one behind Julia Massaro for second overall in the Cardinal record books for draw controls in a season.
Stanford recorded six free position goals out of its 13 efforts, and only had eight turnovers on the day.
The Cardinal defense was anchored by Kara Rahaim and Lucy Pearson, with the latter taking the last 7:30 of the fourth quarter. Rahaim was a force in cage the rest of the game, allowing only 11 goals while making five saves.
Stanford will look to extend its win streak to four games on Sunday against #21 USC and earn its second consecutive regular season sweep of the Trojans.
