STANFORD, Calif. – No. 10 Stanford split its second day of action hosting the 2023 Pac-12 North Invitational, sweeping Oregon but falling to Bay Area foe No. 9 California 3-2.
Saturday was highlighted by freshman pair Kelly Belardi and Ashley Vincent's win against No. 9 California on court four. The duo set a new Stanford program record for wins as a pair in a single season with their 20th victory in come-from-behind fashion over the Golden Bears' Lexi McKeown and Ella Dreibholz. The win for Vincent also helped her match the program record for wins as an individual in a single season, as the Atlanta, Ga. has 24 wins through 28 matches played.
The Cardinal opened its afternoon with a clean sweep of Oregon, quickly rebounding from its first two consecutive losses of the 2023 season Friday.
Stanford fought hard with its Bay Area foe, as all but one point in the dual came down to a third set. California's win in the second Big Spike this season came from victories in the three-set battles on court one and five and a two-set win on court two.
The Cardinal now preps for a road trip to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the Battle of the Bayou April 14-15 on the campus of LSU. Stanford will meet North Florida, host Tigers, Houston Christian and Nicholls throughout the two-day tournament.
