COLUMBUS, Georgia – Stanford sophomore Rose Zhang is one of 10 finalists for the 2023 Annika Award, it was announced Monday morning. Zhang is looking to win the award for the second straight season, while Stanford is looking to claim the award for the third straight season (Rachel Heck, 2021).
It will be hard to deny Zhang when 2023 voting opens on Monday afternoon. So far this season she has won seven times in nine events (77.8%) and also won the Augusta National Women's Amateur in April. Zhang's seven wins are the most in school history for a single season. Her current 68.70 scoring average is well ahead of last season's NCAA-record breaking pace of 69.68. Her career scoring average (through 58 events) is 69.22, better than Lorena Ochoa's NCAA record (60 rounds) of 70.85.
For her career, Zhang has won 11 times in 19 tries (57.9%) including the 2022 National Championship (Individual and Team), 2023 Pac-12 and Regional titles, and is also the only woman to claim the U.S. Girls Junior, U.S. Women's Amateur, NCAA Championship and now Augusta National Women's Amateur.
Only three Cardinal – men or women – have won 11 times in their careers before Zhang: Tiger Woods (26 events), Patrick Rodgers (35 events) and Maverick McNealy (45 events).
Voting will remain open through the final round of the NCAA stroke play competition (May 22).
