GULF SHORES, Ala. – No. 9 Stanford finished its historic 2023 season Saturday, falling 3-0 to No. 2 Texas Christian in a tightly contested quarterfinals dual match at the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The Cardinal won the first sets of the dual match on courts two and five and forced three of five courts into third-set battles. After taking an early 2-0 lead, No. 2 TCU had to earn its third point in a battle on court five, as sophomore Taylor Wilson and freshman Daria Gusarova came back from down 9-14 in the final set but fell 15-12 to the Horned Frogs' Scott/Brockett.
Stanford ends its season with a 29-12 record, setting a new program record for wins in a single season for the third consecutive season. The 2023 team continued the success of the Cardinal program in the last few years, highlighted by the team's first-ever victory at the NCAA Championship when Stanford topped No. 6 GCU 3-2 Friday. Freshman Ashley Vincent set a new single-season individual wins record (31 victories), Vincent and partner Kelly Vincent notched a new pairs single-season win record (28 wins), and fifth-year Charlie Ekstrom set a new career individual wins record, leaving The Farm with 82 victories in a Cardinal uniform.
