WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Stanford opened the Intercollegiate Rowing Association's Championships with the varsity eight advancing to the AB semifinal on Friday on Mercer Lake.
The day got started with the varsity eight taking third in its heat of the Race for Place, advancing to the repechage. The Cardinal followed that up with a first place finish at 5:56.050 in heat two of the repechage to advance to the AB semifinals.
The second varsity started off the day with a fourth place finish to advance to the repechage. Stanford took an early lead in heat one but fell to Cornell by only a few hundredths of a second and advanced to the CD semifinal.
The Cardinal was set to race a varsity four boat for the first time this season, but due to inclement weather, the semifinals have been postponed.
Stanford will continue tomorrow with the semifinals for all three events.
