STANFORD, Calif. – Led by the goal to "Up the Ante", the 2023 season was one to remember for the Cardinal women's gymnastics team. Continuing the unprecedented excellence of Rogers Family Director of Gymnastics Tabitha Yim's tenure, the 2023 campaign was highlighted by three home victories and the program's best score in Maples Pavilion since at least 1999 alongside key road wins at No. 20 Arizona State and No. 25 Washington.
The Cardinal returns all but five routines from its 2023 lineups and will be aided in the addition of four talented newcomers in its quest to continue upping the ante for the 2024 season.
Opening Up Strong
Stanford kicked off its 2023 competition schedule with the inaugural Super 16 Presented by Ozone in Las Vegas, Nev. Led by a career-best scoring all-around title from senior Chloe Widner, the Cardinal topped No. 20 Georgia, No. 14 Oregon State, and Rutgers at the Orleans Arena.
The Cardinal had a lot to prove with its new lineup in its season opener, replacing 11 routines lost by graduation or retirement. The nation's No. 1 recruiting class stepped up in Vegas, taking over 10 of those routines. 7 of the 10 routines performed by the newcomers scored 9.775-or-better.

5-0 in Tempe
In just its third meet of the season and entering Tempe with an unblemished record, the Cardinal earned its first win over No. 19 Arizona State since 2017 to move to 5-0 through three meets.
The historic win over the Sun Devils came in come-from-behind fashion, led by Stanford's then-best season beam score and an anchor hit from Chloe Widner of 9.900.

Best of the Best
In a night celebrating the careers of Isabela Onyshko, Jade Chrobok, Chloe Widner and Addie Stonecipher, the No. 24 Cardinal earned its season-best score of 197.575 in a battle with No. 11 Oregon State. Stanford's team score against the Beavers marked the program's best score in Maples Pavilion dating back to at least 1999.
Stanford's efforts against the Beavers recorded the program's fifth-best regular season score in school history and its top home score since 2004, when the Cardinal topped California 198.875-195.750 and set a new NCAA team score record. The Cardinal's score of 198.875 from 19 years ago still stands as the NCAA's best-ever team total.
The Cardinal's 2023 campaign included scores of 196.000-or-better in every regular season meet.

Fought Until the End
No. 20 Stanford fought until the very end but earned a third-place finish at the NCAA Regionals Second Round, ending its 2023 season at Pauley Pavilion.
The NCAA Regionals Second Round meet was neck-and-neck through three rotations, with the Cardinal down .100 heading into the final rotation. Stanford's gymnasts stepped up to finish the meet, recording the program's top vault team score in 11 seasons (2012 season, 49.550 at NCAA Super Six).

Widner Makes a Statement
Senior Chloe Widner finished her senior season Thursday morning competing in the all-around competition at the NCAA Championships Semifinals Session I. The Frisco, Texas native shined on beam, earning a 9.9500 and placing tied for fourth to notch the best individual beam score in program history in its current format at an NCAA Championships event.
Widner's performance on beam highlighted her day, as five of six judges awarded her the final score of 9.9500. Her efforts also earned her NCAA First-Team All-America honors, as she finished as one of the top four on her event in the first session. Her effort was the top finish in the first session and was matched by UCLA's Emma Malabuyo, Oklahoma's Olivia Trautman, Kentucky's Isabella Magnelli in the second session.

Neault and Widner Earn All-Pac-12 Honors Based on their performances throughout the 2023 campaign, Senior Chloe Widner was selected as an All-Pac-12 First Team member on bars and sophomore Brenna Neault was named an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection in the all-around.
Widner is the Cardinal's most recent first-team bars selection since Elizabeth Price earned the honor in 2018. The Frisco, Texas native finished the regular season with an NQS of 9.930, tied for sixth-best in the conference and tied for 18th-best in the nation. Widner won two bars titles throughout the season, both against Washington, with scores of 9.925 (vs. Washington) and 9.975 (at Washington, new career-high total), and has scored above 9.900 in her last six appearances on the event.
After an incredible freshman year, Neault continued her success in a Stanford leotard as a sophomore. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. native competed on all four events in all but one meet this season, collecting two all-around titles (vs. Washington, Feb. 13 and at Washington, Feb. 20) and a career-best all-around total of 39.650 at Washington, Feb. 20.
Titles Galore
As a team, Stanford captured 16 event titles, up from just 10 a year ago. The Cardinal recorded four titles on vault and beam, three each on bars, and a team-high five titles on floor.
Individually, Cardinal gymnasts collected 20 individual event crowns, led by freshman newcomer Anna Roberts' 12 throughout the 2023 season.

9 Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll Selections
Nine Cardinal women's gymnastics student-athletes were named to the Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll.
Stanford gymnasts earning the honor were Ira Alexeeva, Madison Brunette, Jade Chrobok, Sandra Jessen, Brenna Neault, Isabela Onyshko, Addie Stonecipher, Chloe Widner, and Amanda Zeng.
The Winter Academic Honor Roll includes student-athletes who participated in the conference-sponsored sports of men's and women's basketball, women's gymnastics, men's and women's swimming and diving and wrestling. Any student-athlete with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or above who has served at least one year in residence at Stanford is eligible for the award.
