National Team Calls Up Chatain

STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford All-American Peter Chatain earned his first call-up to the U.S. senior men's rowing team.

Chatain, a veteran of the U.S. under-19 and U23 teams, was named to the U.S. roster for the World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, from September 3-10. Chatain was named to the Men's Eight team.

The assignment gives Chatain an opportunity to bid for a spot on the U.S. team for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Chatain, from Winnetka, Illinois, was an IRCA first-team All-American in 2023 and 2021 and was a Pac-12 Rowing Athlete of the Year. He is a two-time All-Pac-12 first-team selection, including in 2023, when he rowed as the stroke for Stanford in the IRA Championships. He completed his eligibility in 2023.

Chatain is a Stanford graduate student in computer science with an emphasis on artificial intelligence and earned his undergraduate degree in mathematics with minors in computer science and physics. He won silver with the U.S. team at the U23 World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic, in 2021.

Stanford men's rowing has a strong history with the senior national team, most recently with Austin Hack competing on the U.S. Eight boat at the 2014 and 2015 World Championships.
