COLUMBUS, Ohio – Facing its first road test of the season, Stanford dropped a 6-0 contest against No. 18 Ohio State on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinal falls to 1-4 on the year, while Ohio State jumps to 6-1 this season. All of Stanford's losses have come against ranked foes.
Daisy Ford got the start in net, registering five saves between the posts in the first half. Kendall Dowd would assume goaltending duties in the second half and tally two saves of her own. Stanford was outshot 20-4 in the game, with Star Horlock, Maroussia Walckiers, Gemma Townsend and Bella Ganocy generating the offensive chances. The Buckeyes also held a 10-0 advantage in corners.
After the defense held Ohio State scoreless in the first frame, the Buckeyes opened the scoring early in the second with four goals in five minutes to put Stanford at a 4-0 deficit at halftime. The Buckeyes would add to their scoring in the second half, scoring a goal in both the third and fourth quarters off corner chances.
"I was really pleased with our press today, we had the opportunities to counter but unfortunately we were not sharp in our counterattack," head coach Roz Ellis said. "Ohio State has the ability to capitalize on their chances, and we gave them too many opportunities in the defensive 25. We'll look to clean up our unit defense and leave this loss in Ohio."
Stanford rounds out the nonconference slate on Tuesday against Michigan State at 10am PT, before they head to the east coast to open America East play against New Hampshire on Sept. 15 and Maine on Sept. 17. Tuesday's game will be broadcast on B1G+.
