STANFORD, Calif. – Sophomore Jasmine Aikey contributed a game-winning goal in the 82nd minute as No. 3 Stanford (9-0-1, 2-0-0 Pac-12) earned a 2-1 victory over Arizona State (6-2-3, 1-1-0 Pac-12) on Thursday night from Cagan Stadium.

The goal, Aikey's team-leading fifth of the season, broke the 1-1 tie after Arizona State scored an equalizer in the 53rd minute.

Freshman Erica Grilione was credited with the assist as she battled to steal a ball in the ASU back line before sending a cross across the box to Aikey who settled and fired a low right-footed shot into the back of the net to beat ASU goalkeeper Pauline Nelles.

The assist put a cap on a stellar match from Grilione. The native of Roseville, Calif. finished with a goal and the assist – scoring on her first touch of the match off the bench in the 28th minute to record her third goal of the year. Grilione, who logged 51 minutes in the victory, had entered the match as a substitute in the 26th minute.

Arizona State did not manage a shot in the first half against Stanford goalkeeper Ryan Campbell, as the Cardinal possessed the ball 72% of the opening 45 minutes.

The Cardinal elected to make a goalkeeper change in the second half, inserting Haley Craig into goal for the final 45 minutes.

The Sun Devils managed a much stronger effort in the second half, totaling five shots, including a goal from Florence Vaillancourt in the 53rd minute. After the Cardinal took the lead on Aikey's goal, Craig did well to defend the advantage, tipping away a shot on a free kick from Suzuka Yosue in the 84th minute.

The Cardinal will remain at home this Sunday, welcoming Arizona to The Farm for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
