SANTIAGO, Chile – Stanford sophomores Lucy Bell and Kayla Wilson wrapped up competition at the 2023 Pan American Games on Tuesday afternoon, bringing home three medals back to The Farm.
Wilson opened the weekend on Saturday with a silver medal performance in the women's 4x100 freestyle relay, swimming the third leg of the race to help lead USA to a 3:38.42 mark, finishing .67 seconds behind Canada.
The Virginia Beach, Va. native returned to action on Sunday with the women's 200 freestyle, securing the top time in Heat 2 with a 2:01.34 before shaving nearly three seconds off her time in the final to place fifth with a 1:58.91.
After a hiatus on Monday, both Cardinal returned to the pool on Tuesday to put a close on the event. Bell would lead Heat 2 of the 400 individual medley with a 4:49.68 to qualify for the final, where she would claim the silver medal with a 4:44.27, just a half second off the pace of Canada's Julie Brousseau.
Wilson followed that up with her third final of the Pan American Games, this time competing with the 4x200 freestyle relay team for the second leg, as USA lead the charge with a 7:55.26 to take the gold medal.
Wilson and Bell will now rejoin the Stanford program and resume collegiate competition, as the Cardinal prepares for a weekend doubleheader against Arkansas on Oct. 27 and Washington State on Oct. 28.
