Cardinal Welcomes No. 5 Washington to The Farm

Stanford football is at home for the fifth time in the last six games with a Saturday afternoon showdown against No. 5 Washington at 4 p.m. on FS1.

The Cardinal has not won a home game in 2023, and is on a six-game losing streak at home dating back to last season.

Tiger Bachmeier is coming off of one of the best games by a Stanford true freshman in recent memory. He recorded eight receptions for 75 yards and his first collegiate touchdown. His eight catches are the most by a true freshman at Stanford since at least 1996.

In the most recent home game against UCLA last week, Anthony Franklin blocked a Bruins field goal in the first quarter. It was the first blocked field by Stanford since the 2020 season.

Three Stanford players recorded their first career sacks in Saturday's game against UCLA: Tristan Sinclair, Tevarua Tafiti, and Zach Rowell

Ashton Daniels was 27-45 throwing the football against UCLA, the second game in a row that the sophomore quarterback has had 27 completions on 45 attempts.

Washington is the highest-ranked team that Stanford will face during the 2023 season. The Huskies are ranked fifth in both the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls. They also have one of the best offenses in the NCAA, led by potential Heisman-winning quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

The nation stayed up late to watch Stanford's miraculous comeback against Colorado on Oct. 13. ESPN announced that the Cardinal's 29-point come-from-behind win was seen by over 3.3 million viewers, making it ESPN's most-viewed Friday night game since 2018.

Following Saturday's home game against Washington, Stanford will head on the road for a pair of road games. It marks the second time this season Stanford will play consecutive road games (first two games of the season).

Saturday’s game against Washington is historic in the sense that the Cardinal will be breaking out its black uniforms. This marks the second time this season that Stanford has worn black uniforms, which is the first time in program history the team has worn its black uniforms twice in a season. This week’s version of the black uniforms will feature a twist: a new white helmet. Stanford has not worn white helmets with its black uniforms since 2010-11, which is how the team debuted its new alternate uniform.
