Painter on Cutino Award Watch List

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford senior driver Jackson Painter is one of 20 student-athletes on the Cutino Award Watch List announced by USA Water Polo and The Olympic Club in collaboration with the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) on Thursday.

The prestigious Peter J. Cutino Award, named in honor of the late Hall of Fame coach, recognizes the best player in men's and women's college water polo. Now in its second year, the watch list was created to help promote the college game, awareness of the honor, and the excellent play of athletes around the country.

Two Stanford men have combined to win the honor a record-tying six times, most recently Ben Hallock in 2018 and 2019. Tony Azevedo won the award, which was instituted in 1999, four times (2001-04).

Painter has scored a team and MPSF-best 48 goals, with 14 multi-goal performances through 18 games, and has scored 42 goals in his last 13 contests (multi-goal games in all but one). He collected the first All-America honor of his career last season, one in which he led the MPSF with 67 goals and 99 points, while also recording 32 assists.

No. 3 Stanford (13-5, 2-2 MPSF) concludes the home portion of its schedule on Thursday, Oct. 26 when it hosts No. 16 Pacific at 7 p.m.
