LOS ANGELES – Meeting UCLA for the final time in Pac-12 play, No. 4 Stanford (14-0-4, 7-0-3 Pac-12) battled to a 1-1 draw with the second-ranked Bruins (15-1-1, 9-0-1 Pac-12) on Sunday from Wallis Annenberg Stadium to keep its undefeated season alive.
With the draw, UCLA clinched the 2023 Pac-12 title, extending the streak of Stanford or UCLA being crowned Pac-12 Champion in each season since 2001.
After a scoreless first half, UCLA finally broke through with a goal in the 68th minute as Sofia Cook hammered home a loose ball in the box for her first goal of the year.
Needing a victory to stay alive in the Pac-12 title race, Stanford immediately responded, earning the equalizer less than a minute after surrendering the goal. Erica Grilione won a free kick just outside the box, setting the table for a Jasmine Aikey free kick. Aikey's shot was too hot to handle for UCLA goalkeeper Neeku Purcell, leaving a tap-in goal from Maya Doms on the rebound.
Senior Ryan Campbell was outstanding in goal for the Cardinal, recording four saves while facing 15 total shots from the Bruins compared to nine from Stanford. Purcell was credited with two saves for UCLA.
Stanford will return home to conclude the regular season on Friday, hosting California at 7 p.m. for Senior Day.
