On The Road Again

Stanford football hits the road for just the fourth time this season, making the trip to Pullman to face Washington State on Saturday night at 6 p.m. on Pac- 12 Network.

The Cardinal has won its first game of the month twice this season (September and October). Saturday's game at Wazzu will be the first game in November for Stanford.

Stanford's offense came to life during October. In two of the three games played, Stanford compiled at least 495 yards of offense. Ashton Daniels threw for 1,031 yards in three games and Elic Ayomanor was on the receiving end of 530 of those yards. No quarterback or receiver in the Pac-12 has more yards over the last three games.

With 448 total yards against the Huskies, Daniels recorded the second most yards in a single game by a Stanford quarterback, trailing only Davis Mills and his 491 yards in a game against Washington State in 2019.

The defense came to play against No. 5 Washington on Oct. 28. Stanford held the Washington offense to its second-fewest total yards in the first half of a game this season, while also forcing two fourth-quarter turnovers. The fumble recovery by Mitch Leigber in the fourth quarter was the first fumble recovery by the Card in 2023.

Ashton Daniels was 27-45 throwing the football against UCLA, the second game in a row that the sophomore quarterback has had 27 completions on 45 attempts.

Elic Ayomanor is up to 737 receiving yards on the season, the most by a Cardinal since J.J. Arcega-Whiteside had 1,059 in 2018.

The Cougars are heading in a downward spiral after a hot start to the season. Washington State has lost four straight in conference play after a 4-0 start. The offense, which had scored 183 points in the team's four wins, has put up just 74 in four defeats.

Despite being 0-5 at home, the Cardinal are 2-1 on the road. Saturday's showdown at Wazzu begins a two-game stretch away from home for Stanford, the final two road games during the 2023 season.

True freshman wide receiver Tiger Bachmeier is making his mark in the Stanford offense as the season rolls on, becoming one of the most trusted targets for Ashton Daniels. Bachmeier caught 12 passes during the first five games of the season, but has caught 18 passes over the last two games. With ten receptions against No. 5 Washington on Oct. 28, Bachmeier became the first true freshman to record 10 catches in a game in Stanford history. His 30 receptions and 315 receiving yards on the season are the most by a true freshman in the Pac-12 this year. He ranks fifth and ninth in the NCAA in those categories for true freshmen, respectively.
