Kitahata Goal Holds Up in 1-0 Shutout

SALT LAKE CITYAndrea Kitahata's goal in the 11th minute on Sunday held up as No. 3 Stanford (12-0-1, 5-0-0 Pac-12) shut out Utah (5-4-5, 1-2-2 Pac-12) 1-0 in Pac-12 play to remain unbeaten on the season.

Freshman Maryn Wolf set up the game-winner from Kitahata, shedding her defender near the top of the box, spinning toward goal and then crossing a ball to the other side of the attacking area where Kitahata curled a right-footed shot to the near post and past the dive of the Utah goalkeeper.

For Kitahata, the goal was her fifth of the season – including her Pac-12-best fourth game-winner.

Both sides played strong defensive matches, with Stanford eventually compiling a 14-5 advantage in shots, but putting only four shots on frame while limiting Utah to just two on target.

Senior Ryan Campbell made two saves en route to her sixth shutout of the season, while Kasey Wardle made three saves on the other side.

Stanford will return to action when it hosts Washington on October 14 at 6 p.m. The Cardinal will wear pink jerseys against the Huskies to promote breast cancer awareness. The match against Washington will also serve as the start of the pink jersey auction with all proceeds going to the Women's Health Center at Stanford Medicine. The auction will run through the match vs. Oregon on October 22.
