Yun, Rayle Win MPSF Weekly Honors

STANFORD, Calif. – As a reward for Stanford's performances at the season-opening Western Invitational last weekend, the Cardinal swept weekly honors from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

Saber specialist Joy Yun was named Women's Fencer of the Week and epee specialist Kai Rayle earned Men's Fencer of the Week honors.

Yun went 16-3 at the Western Invitational at the Air Force Academy. As Stanford took on five of the six top-ranked teams in the country, Yun went a combined 9-1 against those teams. She was 3-0 each against No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 5 Ohio State, and No. 5 Northwestern (the two schools share the No. 5 ranking).

Her performances were pivotal in allowing No. 14 Stanford to upset No. 5 Northwestern, 18-9, and for the Cardinal to finish the two-day tournament with a 6-4 record. This is the second MPSF Fencer of the Week honor for Yun, the reigning MPSF Women's Fencer of the Year.

Rayle went 3-0 against No. 2 Columbia to highlight Stanford's men's performances at the Western Invitational. Rayle, a senior, went 13-8 over the course of the two-day tournament.

Rayle was one of two Cardinal to win a bout against No. 1 Notre Dame. Stanford went 3-0 against MPSF foes, with Rayle going a combined 4-1 in those bouts.
