FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – No. 3 Stanford opened up the Pac-12 Championships by taking gold in the 800 free relay and silver in the 200 medley relay. The Cardinal ended day one with 120 points, tying for first with Cal.
The meet opened up with the 200 medley relay with the quartet of Claire Curzan, Allie Raab, Emma Wheal and Taylor Ruck putting up a season fastest time of 1:35.42, just .02 seconds behind first place Cal.
The Cardinal won the 800 free relay by 4.72 seconds at 6:53.90, the top time in the NCAA this year. Morgan Tankersley, Torri Huske, Lillie Nordmann and Kayla Wilson led the way on the A team to tie the meet.
The conference championships will continue tomorrow with the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and the 200 free relay. The divers will open up the diving portion of the meet with the 1-meter. The preliminaries begin at 10:30 am and the finals will start at 6:00 PM.
