FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Stanford earned a podium finish on day one of the Pac-12 Swimming Championships, taking bronze in the 800 free relay. It was one of two events on the first day of action, as the Cardinal also competed in the 200 medley relay.

The medley relay kicked off Wednesday's session of the Championships, with Stanford seeded third overall. The quartet of Leon MacAlister, Zhier Fan, Andrei Minakov, and Rafael Gu swam in the A final, but were disqualified due to a false start.

The second-seeded California relay also false started in the event, giving way to a podium of Arizona State, Arizona, and Utah.

Stanford bounced back in the second relay of the evening, the 800 free relay. Luke Maurer, Ron Polonsky, Andres Dupont, and Preston Forst teamed up to take third in the event, behind Arizona State in first and California in second.

The Cardinal's swim was also a season-best time by more than six seconds and earned the team an NCAA A Standard Cut in the process.

Stanford returns to action tomorrow with prelims beginning at 11 a.m. and finals kicking off at 6 p.m. The events lined up for the second day of action include the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and 200 free relay.
