DENTON, Texas - The Cardinal opened the 2024 season with a victory in Texas, taking down Texas Woman's University by a score of 102-89. Along with the win, Stanford competed for the first time with collegiate artistic swimming's new scoring system.

"This first competition was important for our team to gain valuable experience in the new scoring system," said head coach Megan Abarca. "We are excited to have this first outing under our belt, and I am proud of the swims that we put in this weekend. We have a busy two weeks ahead of us, and we're looking forward to refining our routines as we look to our home competition next weekend and upcoming trip to Ohio State!"

The 2024 collegiate season features changes in the scoring for routines, including a starting degree of difficulty based on the choreography and moves utilized. These moves are submitted to the judges prior to the performance and are used to grade the routine based on the accuracy of moves performed.

Stanford was victorious in each of the five disciplines in the meet. To open the competition on Friday, Stanford took the top spot in the Tech A competition.

The following day In the team event, the Cardinal scored 225.5438 points, topping TWU's top finishing score of 138.9292 by more than 86 points. Stanford also added a fourth place finish in the event, coming in with a score of 125.6813.

In the trio, Stanford featured a dominant showing from Miko Begossi, Emmanuella Tchakmakjian, and Ivy Davis. The group completed a base mark-free swim and the top score in the event by more than 55 points with an overall score of 206.1854.

Yara Elian and Lindi Schroeder, who competed in duet together last season, teamed up with Elisa Brunel in the trio to earn second place with a tally of 150.8896.

In their second season as partners, Miko Begossi and Ivy Davis picked up in 2024 right where they left off last year. The duet earned the top mark in Texas, finishing with a score of 144.5667.

Yara Elian and Ella Rau were not far behind in their first competition together, taking second place with a score of 138.7417.

In the final event, the solo, it was Lindi Schroeder who came out on top. The junior logged a 134.2458 to complete the sweep and secure the overall victory for Stanford.

In the final score sheet, Stanford totaled 12 points from the Tech A event, 31 from the team, 30 from the trio, 15 from the duet, and 14 from the solo to reach 102 points overall.

The Cardinal returns to action this weekend, taking on Incarnate Word January 26-28. The full routine competitions will take place on Saturday, January 27 and Sunday, January 28 beginning at 11 a.m.
