STANFORD, Calif. - No. 2 Stanford secured a sweep of Maryland to advance out of ITA Kickoff Weekend and earn a spot at the ITA Indoor Nationals in February.
The Cardinal made quick work of the Terps in doubles, with Connie Ma and Alexandra Yepifanova winning on court two, 6-0, and Katherine Hui and Valenxia Xu on court three, 6-1.
Stanford won five first sets in singles and its lead jumped from 1-0 to 3-0 in short order, with Yepifanova a 6-1, 6-0 winner on three, and Hui a 6-0, 6-2 winner on five. Needing just one more win to close it out, Alexis Blokhina delivered on court four, notching a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Stanford, which has won 103 of its last 109 matches at Taube Family Tennis Stadium, secured its third straight ITA Indoors appearance and will be chasing its first tournament title at the event since 2011.
