Stanford Falls to Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Stanford fell to Yale on Sunday, 13-12 in a back and forth battle at Reese Stadium. The Cardinal moves to 0-2 on the season while Yale earns its first victory of the year in its first game, moving to 1-0.

The two teams traded goals for throughout the first half, with the game being tied on seven occasions before the Cardinal entered the halftime break with an 8-7 lead. Ailish Kelly led the charge for Stanford in the first two quarters, scoring three of her four total goals during the first 30 minutes of action.

The Cardinal opened up a two-goal lead, the first time either team went up by more than a goal, to start the second half. Jordyn Case scored the first strike of the second half to put the Cardinal up two and restored the two-goal advantage with her third of the day with 1:21 remaining in the third period.

The biggest lead for either team came in the fourth quarter when Sarah Jaques put Stanford up 12-9. Jaques had four points on the day, tallying two goals and two assists. 

Yale then went on to score four goals across the final 12 minutes of the game to take a one-goal lead and win the game 13-12.

Ailish Kelly led all scorers with four goals on the day. while Aliya Polisky recorded two goals and two assists to join Jaques and Kelly with the team-lead in points at four.

Jordyn Case and Jay Browne chipped in three points each, three goals from Case and a goal and two assists for Browne.

Annabel Frist had her second-straight game with double digit draw controls, tallying 10 against Yale.

The Cardinal forced eight Bulldog turnovers, including three created by Emma Capanna to lead the team. Capanna also topped Stanford in ground balls, tying with Kelly for the team lead of three.

Lucy Pearson recorded a career-high seven saves in goal while facing 22 shots from the hosts. 

For the second straight game, the Cardinal outshot its opponent (28-22) and held the edge in draw controls (15-13). Each team recorded 20 shots on goal on Saturday.

Stanford concludes its road trip in Worcester, Massachusetts against Holy Cross on Monday afternoon.
