SALT LAKE CITY – Stanford women's gymnastics capped off a two-meet road swing with a season-high road score against No. 4 Utah Friday evening, falling 198.075-196.625 to the Utes inside Huntsman Center in the final Pac-12 dual meet meeting between the two opponents.
Fifth-year Chloe Widner brought home a share of the beam title with a career-best tying score of 9.975 while junior Brenna Neault won the all-around title with a total of 39.175.
Utah's season-best score was led by a 10.000 on floor from Grace McCallum and scores of 9.975 on beam from Maile O'Keefe, Abby Paulson and McCallum, and the same score on bars from Makenna Smith.
The Cardinal came back from a fall in its first routine of the night with a strong bars rotation, scoring a 49.300 on its first event of the night. Neault led the Stanford lineup with a season-best score of 9.925, the second-best bars total of the meet, while senior Ira Alexeeva put up a 9.900 in the fifth spot and freshman Sienna Robinson recorded a career-best 9.825 in the fourth spot. Widner put up a 9.850 in the anchor position and junior Anapaula Gutierrez added a 9.800.
Stanford then went to vault, sending five gymnasts up for a team total of 48.925. Gutierrez and sophomore Nguyen led the lineup with scores of 9.850, while both sophomore Claire Dean and senior Amanda Zeng added scores of 9.775. Neault rounded out scoring routines with a 9.700.
The Cardinal then went to the floor, scoring a team total of 49.050. The rotation was highlighted by Widner's season-best tying 9.925 effort, just her third floor routine of the season. Nguyen added a 9.850 while freshman Victoria Cluck earned a new career-best total of 9.825. Neault and Robinson both totaled scores of 9.725 to complete Stanford's scoring efforts.
Stanford finished with a bang on beam guided by Widner's title-winning anchor performance. Both Robinson and sophomore Ashley Carter earned new career-best scores of 9.900 and 9.825, respectively, while Neault and Alexeeva both added scores of 9.825.
The Cardinal returns to the friendly confines of The Farm for its next two meets, welcoming No. 9 UCLA to Maples March 1 for a 5 p.m. meet and Bay Area foe No. 3 California to Stanford on March 10 for a senior day meet set to start at 2 p.m..
